The rest of Day 17

Note the Walmart in the background
The trip south from Cody was quite a haul . . . . literally. The road climbed gradually and not so gradually to over 11,000 feet. I actually pulled over to check and see if the trailer brakes were engaged as it felt like I was pulling dead weight. We were traveling yet another two lane road and fortunately there was hardly any traffic for me to frustrate as we worked our way up to the peak and then down the other side. Poor Red – we just got her out of the hospital and pushed her to the limit. She did good – real good.

Our next stop was Riverton, Wyoming – the place where PT Patti was born some ???? (insert your best guess) years ago. The old timers in Riverton said there once was a plaque marking the spot where Patti’s mom found her, after being raised by wolves, but we could not find it. Riverton is another beautiful small town with a lot of personality. Of course we had to visit the local Walmart and there we found a large display of Air Speed tennies on sale for $3.00 a pair. We should have bought them all but Patti settled for one pair and Mom could not find her size. I am pretty well set with several pair of Air Speeds and besides, they only had woman’s styles on sale.

We should have bought them all
This lake is about 20 miles north of Riverton

Ahhh -  a Riverton greasy spoon
After touring the town and eating at the local “greasy spoon”, we settled in for the night at our RV site. The site was rich with vegetation as the weeds were about hip high. This was the only park we found that charged for showers ($1.50) – luckily we brought ours with us. The kid running the front desk was heavily tattooed not counting the piercing. I may be showing my age but I certainly will be glad to see this body piercing, body inking thing go the way of the Hoola-Hoop. One day there will be a whole lot of old men and grandmas running around with ugly wrinkled ink skin. I’ve been guilty of uttering “what were we thinking” but this fad goes one better. Anyway, our trip is nearing the end but we still have many miles to cover.
