Day Four finds us in Caspar, Wyoming visiting the Fort Caspar Museum. In addition to the exhibits inside, the Fort was reconstructed on the original site - from eye witness drawings. The construction took place in the 1930's. All of the buildings are completed inside with furnishings from the era. The Fort sits very near the Platte River.
Patti is standing in front of the reconstructed bridge across the Platte River. This is the actual spot where the crossing began but the original bridge was nearly 850 feet long. Before the bridge, the Mormon's operated a Ferry at the site. For a sum of money they would ferry your wagon and belongings across the river. The bridge pretty much put them out of business although there was a hefty toll for it's use.
My cousin Carolyn met us at the museum and took us to her home where we spent the afternoon catching up. Carolyn is my dad's, sister's daughter. Later, her daughter Dietra and grandson Tyler came to visit. We fell in love with this five year old and really had a lot of fun. I have been missing my grandsons so I really put the heavy teasing on Tyler and he soaked it up like a sponge.
Before we said good bye, we shared some burgers at a local 50's diner. It was a fun and relaxing evening although we left the diner in a rain storm that lasted most of the night. While at dinner, I showed Tyler how I can remove my thumb and he freaked. My cousin was also amazed - she must have led a sheltered life. I wanted to show him how to stick his chewing gum under the table but his mom objected. Moms are like that.
So we left town the next morning before they ran us out. Of course we had to visit the local Walmart and "Old" McDonald's on the way out of town.
